  • Updated description of Malawi Integrated HIV Program Report 2011 Q3 from

    This is the first quarterly HIV Program report after implementation of the 2011 Integrated Clinical HIV Guidelines1 in July 2011. A summary of the key achievements between July and September 2011 is provided below: * Scale-up of integrated HIV services had reached the following number of sites: __810__ HTC sites (547 within and 263 outside of health facilities) __409__ (static) ART sites __317__ PMTCT sites (Option B+) __225__ Pre-ART sites __193__ sites with HIV-exposed child follow-up * __381,816__ persons tested and counselled for HIV, __165,580 (43%)__ of these tested for the first time. * __120,201 (74%)__ of __162,187__ women at ANC had their HIV status ascertained; 10,336 (9%) of these were HIV positive and __8,277 (78%)__ of these received ARVs. * __115,103 (91%)__ of __126,514__ women at maternity had their HIV status ascertained; __9,192 (8%)__ of these were HIV positive and __8,127 (88%)__ of these received ARVs during labour. * __8,509 (8%)__ of infants discharged alive from maternity were known to be HIV exposed, __7,758 (91%)__ of these received ARV prophylaxis. * __3,244__ women started ART under Option B+: __1,847 (52%)__ were pregnant and __1,394 (48%)__ were breastfeeding. * __24,638__ patients started ART during this quarter; this is __30%__ more than in any other quarter since the start of the ART program in 2004. * __79%__ of adults and __79%__ of children were retained alive on ART 12 months after ART initiation. * __295,962__ patients were alive and on ART by end of September 2011; __4,384 (1.5%)__ were on ART regimen 5A (tenofovir / lamivudine / efavirenz) * __3,596__ HIV exposed children and __8,594__ pre-ART patients enrolled for follow-up in HIV Care Clinics (HCC) * __2,856__ health workers were trained in the new integrated PMTCT/ART curriculum during Q3, bringing the total number of health workers re-trained in the new guidelines to __3,366__. All training details were captured in the new national HIV training data base (TrainSMART) at MOH. * __266__ new HTC providers were trained during Q3 and 25 qualified HTC providers received further skills training in couples counselling. * __20__ new STI providers were trained during Q3.
