December 2013 is provided below:\r\n\r\n* Scale-up of integrated HIV

services had reached the following number of sites:\r\n\r\n     *

__19,172__ blood units collected were screened for HIV, hepatitis B

and syphilis.\r\n\r\n* __129,368 (83%)__ of __156,528__ women at ANC

had their HIV status ascertained; __10,354 (8%)__ of\r\nthese were HIV

positive. __118,217 (91%) __of __128,675__ women at maternity had

their HIV status\r\nascertained; __9,066 (8%)__ of these were HIV

positive.\r\n\r\n* _ 23,334__ patients started ART during this

quarter; this is a 10% decline from the previous\r\nquarter 
            
42
(25,551).\r\n\r\n* __472,865__ patients were alive and on ART by end 
            
43
of December 2013. This is equivalent to 79%\r\ncoverage of the 
            
44
estimated __602,000__ population in need of ART (all ages).1 Estimated 
            
45
ART\r\ncoverage among children (<15 years) and adults was 48% and 84%, 
            
46
respectively.\r\n\r\n* __78%__ of adults and __81%__ of children were 
            
47
retained alive on ART at 12 months after initiation.\r\n\r\n* __

381,477 (87%)__ of __424,961__ on first line adult ART were on regimen 
            
49
5A (TDF/3TC/EFV).\r\n\r\n* The proportion of ART patients with 
            
50
documented side effects was 2%. This is a significant\r\ndecline from 
            
51
7% before transition to 5A.\r\n\r\n* A total of __11,815__ HIV 
            
52
positive pregnant women were on ART: __5,271 (45%)__ of these 
            
53
were\r\nalready on ART when getting pregnant and __6,544 (57%)__ 
            
54
started ART during\r\npregnancy/delivery. This is equivalent to 75% 
            
55
ART coverage among the estimated __15,750__\r\nHIV infected pregnant 
            
56
women in Malawi this quarter.\r\n\r\n* An additional __1,721__

breastfeeding women started ART due to Option B+ (in WHO stage

1/2)\r\n\r\n* __5,798 (79%)__ of __7,952__ women started under Option

B+ were retained at 6 months after ART\r\ninitiation; __5,280 (73%)__

of __8,012__ were retained at 12 months after ART initiation; __7,452

initiation. This confirms for the first time\r\nthat a high proportion

of women started under Option B+ remain on ART beyond the\r\ncessation

of breastfeeding.\r\n\r\n* __8,663 (8%)__ of infants discharged alive

from maternity were known to be HIV exposed, __7,793\r\n(90%)__ of

these received ARV prophylaxis (nevirapine). __5,487 (63%)__ were

enrolled in exposed\r\nchild follow-up before age 2 months.\r\n\r\n*

A total of __9,207__ HIV exposed children and __7,735__ pre-ART

patients were enrolled for followup\r\nin HIV Care Clinics (HCC)
