  "notes": "This is the 8th quarterly HIV Program report after

implementation of the 2011 Integrated Clinical\r\nHIV Guidelines in 
            
27
July 2011. A summary of the key achievements between April and June 
            
28
2013 is\r\nprovided below:\r\n\r\n* Scale-up of integrated HIV 
            
29
services had reached the following number of sites:\r\n\r\n     * 
            
30
__825__ static (607 within and 218 outside of health facilities) and 
            
31
534 outreach HTC sites\r\n\r\n     * __671__ (static) ART sites\r\n     
            
32
\r\n     * __588__ PMTCT sites (Option B+)\r\n     \r\n     * __623__

Pre-ART sites\r\n     \r\n     * __603__ sites with HIV-exposed child

follow-up\r\n\r\n* 462,334 persons were tested and counselled for HIV 
            
35
and 37,852 (8%) were HIV positive;\r\n156,875 (34%) people tested for 
            
36
the first time.\r\n\r\n* 16,763 (98%) of 17,142 blood units collected 
            
37
were screened for HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis.\r\n\r\n* __113,061 
            
38
(77%)__ of __147,586__ women at ANC had their HIV status ascertained; 
            
39
__9,282 (8%)__ of\r\nthese were HIV positive. __108,861 (92%)__ of 
            
40
__118,402__ women at maternity had their HIV status\r\nascertained; 
            
41
__8,285 (8%)__ of these were HIV positive.\r\n\r\n* __26,802__ 
            
42
patients started ART during this quarter; this is similar to the 
            
43
previous quarter\r\n(26,881).\r\n\r\n* __443,221__ patients were alive 
            
44
and on ART by end of June 2013. This is equivalent to 74%\r\ncoverage 
            
45
of the estimated __602,000__ population in need of ART (all ages; 2013 
            
46
Spectrum\r\nestimates based on current definition of eligibility for 
            
47
ART in Malawi).\r\n\r\n* __105,326 (26%)__ of __408,013__ on first 
            
48
line adult regimens were on ART regimen 5A (tenofovir /\r\nlamivudine 
            
49
/ efavirenz).\r\n\r\n* __80%__ of adults and __82%__ of children were 
            
50
retained alive on ART at 12 months after ART\r\ninitiation.\r\n\r\nA 
            
51
total of __11,452__ HIV positive pregnant women were on ART: __4,343 
            
52
(38%)__ of these were\r\nalready on ART when getting pregnant and 
            
53
7,109 (62%) started ART during\r\npregnancy/delivery. This is 
            
54
equivalent to 73% ART coverage among the estimated __15,750__\r\nHIV 
            
55
infected pregnant women in Malawi this quarter. __6,910 (97%)__ of 
            
56
pregnant women\r\nstarted ART due to Option B+ (in WHO clinical stage 
            
57
1 or 2) and 199 (3%) due to a low CD4\r\ncount and/or WHO clinical 
            
58
stage 3 or 4.\r\n\r\nAn additional __2,164__ breastfeeding women 
            
59
started ART due to Option B+ (in WHO clinical\r\nstage 1 or 
            
60
2).\r\n\r\n__5,941 (77%)__ of __7,709__ women started under Option B+ 
            
61
were retained at 6 months after ART\r\ninitiation; __5,778 (76%)__ of

__7569__ were retained at 12 months after ART initiation.\r\n\r\n*

__7,520 (7%)__ of infants discharged alive from maternity were known

to be HIV exposed, __7,005\r\n(93%)__ of these received ARV

prophylaxis (nevirapine). __5,026 (67%)__ were enrolled in

exposed\r\nchild follow-up before age 2 months.\r\n\r\n* A total of

__10,277__ HIV exposed children and __9,886__ pre-ART patients were

enrolled for followup\r\nin HIV Care Clinics (HCC) during this

quarter.\r\n\r\n* __112__ medical staff were newly trained and

certified in PMTCT/ART this quarter. This brings\r\nthe total number

trained in the 2011 guidelines to __5,823__.\r\n\r\n* About __300__

staff (mainly HSAs) at 52 facilities received mentoring for collection

of dried\r\nblood samples for Early Infant Diagnosis and documentation
