  "notes": "This is the 11th quarterly HIV Program report after

implementation of the 2011 Integrated Clinical\r\nHIV Guidelines in 
            
27
July 2011. A summary of the key achievements between July and 
            
28
September 2014\r\nis provided below:\r\n\r\n* Scale-up of integrated 
            
29
HIV services had reached the following number of sites:\r\n\r\n     * 
            
30
__724__ static (579 within and 145 outside of health facilities) and 
            
31
188 outreach HTC sites\r\n\r\n     * __707__ (static) ART 
            
32
sites\r\n\r\n     * __619__ PMTCT sites (Option B+, all included in 
            
33
ART sites above)\r\n\r\n     * __654__ Pre-ART sites\r\n\r\n     * 
            
34
__638__ sites with HIV-exposed child follow-up\r\n\r\n* __550,425__ 
            
35
persons were tested and counselled for HIV; __178,882 (32%)__ accessed 
            
36
HTC for the\r\nfirst time; __371,543 (68%)__ were repeat testers and 
            
37
__10,495 (3%)__ of these received\r\nconfirmatory testing (after 
            
38
having tested positive in the past). This is equivalent to 
            
39
__35%__\r\nconfirmatory testing coverage among __29,893__ patients 
            
40
initiating ART this quarter. __32,347\r\n(6%)__ clients received a 
            
41
positive result for the first time.\r\n\r\n* __15,528 (97%)__ of 
            
42
__16,034__ blood units collected were screened for (at least) HIV, 
            
43
hepatitis B\r\nand syphilis.\r\n\r\n* __135,958 (89%)__ of __153,514__ 
            
44
women at ANC had their HIV status ascertained; __10,296 (8%)__ 
            
45
of\r\nthese were HIV positive. __130,167 (95%)__ of __137,343__ women 
            
46
at maternity had their HIV status\r\nascertained; __9,893 (8%)__ of 
            
47
these were HIV positive.\r\n\r\n* __29,893__ patients started ART this 
            
48
quarter.\r\n\r\n* __521,319__ patients were alive and on ART by end of 
            
49
September 2014. This means that 52% of\r\nthe estimated 1 million HIV 
            
50
positive population was on ART. 1 Estimated ART coverage\r\namong 
            
51
people in need for treatment1 was __41% (45,124 / 111,000)__ for 
            
52
children (<15 years)\r\nand __69% (476,195 / 687,000)__ for 
            
53
adults.\r\n\r\n* __78%__ of adults and __78%__ of children were 
            
54
retained alive on ART at 12 months after initiation.\r\n\r\n* 
            
55
__454,763 (93%)__ of __488,020__ patients on first line adult ART were 
            
56
on regimen 5A\r\n(TDF/3TC/EFV).\r\n\r\n* __11,283 2 (85%)__ of an 
            
57
estimated __13,317__  HIV infected pregnant women in Malawi were 
            
58
on\r\nART this quarter. __6,220 (52%)__ of these were already on ART 
            
59
when getting pregnant and\r\n__5,063 (48%)__ started ART during 
            
60
pregnancy/delivery.\r\n\r\n* An additional __1,655__ breastfeeding 
            
61
women started ART due to Option B+ (in WHO stage\r\n1/2)\r\n\r\n*

__78%__, __73%__, __69%__ and __67%__ of women started under Option B+

were retained on ART at 6, 12,\r\n24 and 36 months after initiation, 
            
64
respectively.\r\n\r\n* __9,087 (7%)__ of infants discharged alive from

maternity were known to be HIV exposed, __8,482\r\n(93%)__ of these

received ARV prophylaxis (nevirapine). __6,666 (73%)__ were enrolled

in exposed\r\nchild follow-up before age 2 months.\r\n\r\n* A total of
